Biography

Lalgudi G. Jayaraman was the most celebrated Carnatic violinist of the 20th century and the creator of the Lalgudi Bani — a unique style of violin playing characterised by lyrical phrasing, delicate gamakas, and extraordinary melodic beauty. He composed Thillanas in all 72 Melakarta ragas — a monumental achievement. His violin technique was so refined that audiences often forgot they were listening to an instrument rather than a voice.
