1.Overview

Raga Sangrah is deeply committed to respecting intellectual property rights while making the rich heritage of Carnatic classical music accessible to all. This Copyright Policy explains what content is protected, what is in the public domain, how we handle copyright infringement claims, and how users may use Platform content.

2.Platform-Owned Content

The following content is owned by Jags Design (Panzora Collectibles) and protected under Indian copyright law (Copyright Act, 1957) and applicable international treaties:

  • Platform design, user interface, and visual elements
  • Original editorial content, descriptions, and analyses of ragas and compositions
  • Notation arrangements and transcriptions created by our editorial team
  • AI-generated artwork (raga portrait mandalas, illustrations)
  • Audio recordings and synthesised playback files generated by the Platform
  • Software code, algorithms, and technical implementations
  • The "Raga Sangrah" name, logo, and associated trademarks
  • Translations of classical lyrics into English and other languages

3.Public Domain Content

Classical Carnatic compositions by historical composers (Thyagaraja, Muthuswami Dikshitar, Syama Sastri, Purandaradasa, and others who passed away more than 60 years ago) are in the public domain under Indian copyright law. This includes:

  • Original musical compositions and their melodic content
  • Original lyrics in Sanskrit, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and other languages
  • Raga structures (Arohana, Avarohana, characteristic phrases) as musical facts
  • Tala systems and rhythmic frameworks as traditional knowledge

However, specific modern arrangements, recordings, and editorial work based on these compositions may be protected. We clearly distinguish between public domain source material and our original contributions.

4.User-Generated Content

When you submit content to Raga Sangrah (compositions, annotations, corrections, recordings), you:

  • Retain ownership of your intellectual property
  • Grant Raga Sangrah a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to display, distribute, and use that content on the Platform
  • Represent that you have the right to submit the content and that it does not infringe third-party rights
  • Agree that we may remove content that violates our policies or third-party rights

You may request removal of your user-generated content by contacting us. We will process such requests within 30 days.

5.Fair Use & Educational Use

We support educational use of Carnatic music content. Registered users may use Platform content for personal study, academic research, and non-commercial educational purposes.
