Hanumatodi

Hanumatodi, widely known simply as Todi, is one of the greatest ragas in Carnatic music. It is a profound rakti raga, rich in gamaka and emotional depth, occupying a central place in both pedagogy and concert performance. Its personality is deeply introspective, weighty, and expressive — conveying devotion, yearning, gravity, and philosophical stillness. The true identity of Hanumatodi lies in phrase movement, oscillation, and microtonal handling rather than bare scalar ascent and descent.
