About this Raga
Jhalavarali introduces N3, giving the raga a brighter upper register compared with the previous ragas in the chakra. The combination of R1–G1–M2 with N3 produces a unique tonal flavor that is both striking and somewhat unusual. Because of its distinctive swara arrangement, Jhalavarali is rarely elaborated in extended concert presentations. However, it remains an important part of the Melakarta framework.
